Ben Ellinghaus, Sports coordinator, Melbourne campus
“All work and no play” isn’t a motto that Ben Ellinghaus believes in. On the contrary, he’s thinks all students should combine study with having fun.
“Participation in sport gives students a healthy outlet from their studies, makes it easier for them to meet & keep friends, and teaches them valuable life skills that are not so immediate in the classroom.”
The sports leagues that Ben organizes are very successful and are an excellent way of keeping in touch with students who have since left Taylors College.
“I still keep in touch with many graduates. Some of these students graduated 3 years ago and seeing them every Friday night at indoor soccer or Saturday at basketball or outdoor soccer is a wonderful thing, especially as I get to see them mature and blossom into young adults.”
Developing these kinds of meaningful relationships with students is an aspect of the job that Ben loves.
“Teaching is like coaching, I discovered that I loved seeing real and tangible progress in my students’ performance, and that I could help them improve and make a positive difference.”
“Every day is interesting and brings with it new challenges”.
