How to select your subjects
- From the table below, choose the stream (area of study) consistent with the course you wish to study at university.
- Identify the compulsory core subjects in your chosen area of study.
- Choose 1, 2, or 3 subjects from the list of subjects in Group 1. Refer to the Minimum entry requirements for The University of Sydney undergraduate studies table (PDF 68K) to check which electives are recommended for your undergraduate university course.
- Choose 1 or 2 subjects from the list of subjects in Group 2. These subjects are available to students in all streams.
- A total of 5 subjects (or 4 subjects plus 2 minors) must be studied. Each subject is studied for 5 hours per week. A minor is a subject only studied for one semester. Essential Computing Skills is studied for 10 hours and Study Life Skills is taught in a combination of small and large groups. Both are compulsory subjects.

Which intake is right for me?
To be able to choose the right intake, you'll need to know three things:
- The semester in which your preferred University of Sydney undergraduate degree is offered for example March or July. If the degree starts only in March, the best option is to undertake a USFP intake ending in November or December, otherwise you will have a long wait for the start of your degree.
See: Minimum entry requirements for The University of Sydney undergraduate studies table (PDF 68K).
- What subjects are compulsory for entry to The University of Sydney undergraduate degree that you want to study.
See: Minimum entry requirements for The University of Sydney undergraduate studies table (PDF 68K).
- Whether you meet the requirements for the Foundation intake.
See: Foundation Year entry requirements.
